This year, for the first time, the EngineerGirl writing contest is asking students to submit works of creative fiction that celebrate engineering design and creative problem solving. As the contest description on the EngineerGirl website describes, we’re looking for stories about women and girls saving the day with their wits, skill, and whatever resources they can find to solve the problem. We want stories that inspire EngineerGirl readers to think, “I want to be able to do that” or “I can do that.”
We have also included the following additional resources that we hope will make it easier for students to make the most of this opportunity and stimulate engagement in engineering.

Tips for Class Projects
Thousands of students, both boys and girls, have submitted essays to the contest over the years, with winners earning monetary prizes and the honor of having their writing published on the EngineerGirl website. The contest can be an opportunity for out-of-school work, or it can be part of a classroom project. There have been some wonderful winning submissions in past contests, and we are certain this year will be no exception. The entry deadline for the 2019 contest is February 1, 2019.
If you have questions or would like to know more, we would be delighted to hear from you!
